IMAGINE, New Year again! The close of one year and the opening into another is a wonderful opportunity to reflect, to meditate, and to set intentions for ourselves in the upcoming moments, days and months ahead. I prefer to set intentions rather than "making resolutions." Setting an intention is a more "yogic" frame for possibility, opening AND action, versus a more stressful "have to" frame that often accompanies resolutions. Perhaps this year you might set an intention that places you on the path towards whole hearted Body Mind Soul living. You might intend to be mindful and open to new experiences: to love, to connection, to happiness. Hafiz, an ancient Sufi love poet, wrote about exhilarating oneness of the union with the divine. His poem "All the Hemispheres" beautifully expresses the beauty of being open to the wonders of life.
All the HemispheresLeave the familiar for a while.Let your senses and bodies stretch outLike a welcomed seasonOnto the meadows and shores and hills.Open up to the Roof.Make a new water-mark on your excitementAnd love.Like a blooming night flower,Bestow your vital fragrance of happinessAnd givingUpon our intimate assembly.Change rooms in your mind for a day.All the hemispheres in existenceLie beside an equatorIn your heart.Greet YourselfIn your thousand other formsAs you mount the hidden tide and travelBack home. All the hemispheres in heavenAre sitting around a fireChattingWhile stitching themselves togetherInto the Great Circle inside ofYou.
